Keeping your Invisalign trays squeaky clean is important for both your oral health and aesthetics, but it’s not always easy! Constantly scrubbing them with a toothbrush and toothpaste can get tiring and can quickly go wrong if you forgot to check the product ingredients.
Why not skip all the hassle and use a cleaning solution that’s Invisalign-approved? Invisalign cleaning crystals are just as effective and simple as the clear aligners. Here’s how to properly use them in your hygiene routines.
What Are Invisalign Cleaning Crystals?
Essentially, Invisalign cleaning crystals are additives that you can mix with water to create a sanitizing solution for your trays. They come in small packets, sort of like powdered electrolytes or protein. The idea is to provide Invisalign patients with an easy, safe way to soak their aligners for a more thorough cleanse.
How Do I Use Invisalign Cleaning Crystals?
Invisalign has a step-by-step guide for using their cleaning crystals, which includes:
- Removing your trays and rinsing them with warm water
- Putting them in a glass and filling it with warm water
- Opening a packet of Invisalign cleaning crystals and adding them to the glass
- Gently shaking or stirring the contents for 20 seconds, or until the crystals dissolve
- Soaking for at least 15 minutes
- Gently shaking or stirring for 20 seconds again
- Rinsing your aligners and glass
Basically, rinse, add, stir, soak, rinse again and repeat. The process isn’t too different from making hot chocolate.
Can I Use Other Solutions to Clean My Invisalign?
You can, but they might leave a funny taste in your mouth. Denture cleaner, hydrogen peroxide, and white distilled vinegar are acceptable alternatives. However, if you plan to experiment, keep in mind that your aligners are more sensitive than you might think. Always ask your dentist before trying other cleaning solutions!
Invisalign cleaning crystals might make your aligner hygiene more convenient, but they’re not a substitute for visiting your dentist every six months. These crystals are for your trays and can’t do much for your teeth. When your teeth stain, your snug aligners will also stain! Plus, regular professional cleanings will ensure your smile stays healthy so that you can enjoy your treatment results. Make sure not to skip out on routine dental care.
